Overview
Lift Heavy is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our iOS application.
Information we collect
Lift Heavy stores the following information locally on your device:
- Workout sessions and exercise logs
- Custom workout plans
- Exercise library and preferences
- User profile settings (name, preferred formulas, timer settings)
- Progress tracking data
How we store your data
The vast majority of your data is stored locally on your device. We do not:
- Collect or store personal information on our servers
- Sell your data to anyone
- Link any of the data described below to your name, email, or account
Two features transmit data off your device — Snap to Log (only when you use it) and Advertising (only on the free tier). Both are detailed below.
Snap to Log (AI workout scanning)
Lift Heavy offers an optional AI-powered workout scanning feature (Pro subscription required for unlimited use; 3 free scans per month) that lets you photograph handwritten workouts or whiteboards and import them into the app. When you use this feature:
- The photo you capture is sent to our secure server for processing by an AI model (Anthropic Claude).
- The image is used solely to extract workout information (exercises, sets, reps, weights) and is not stored on our servers after processing.
- No images are retained, logged, or used for training purposes.
- Your subscription status is verified via Apple's signed transaction tokens.
In-app purchases
Lift Heavy offers optional subscriptions and one-time purchases. All transactions are processed securely through Apple's App Store. We do not collect or store any payment information. Apple may share transaction receipts with us for the purpose of verifying your purchase status.
Permissions
Lift Heavy requests the following permissions:
- Notifications: To alert you when rest timers complete during your workouts. You can disable this in your device settings at any time.
- Siri: To enable voice commands for hands-free workout logging. Voice processing is handled by Apple's Siri system.
- Camera & Photo Library: Used only for the Snap to Log feature to capture or select images of workouts. Photos are not stored or accessed for any other purpose.
Data security
Your workout data is stored securely on your device using iOS's built-in security features. For the Snap to Log feature, data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections and is not persisted on our servers.
Data backup
Your Lift Heavy data may be included in your device's iCloud or iTunes backups if you have those features enabled. This is controlled by your device settings, not by Lift Heavy.
Children's privacy
Lift Heavy does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app is designed for general fitness tracking and does not require age verification.
Your rights
You have complete control over your data:
- All data is stored on your device and can be deleted by uninstalling the app.
- You can delete individual workout sessions or exercises within the app.
- No account creation or personal information is required to use Lift Heavy.
- You can manage or cancel subscriptions at any time through your Apple ID settings.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of Lift Heavy after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Use of TelemetryDeck to analyze app usage
We use the privacy-friendly analytics service TelemetryDeck (provider: TelemetryDeck GmbH, Von-der-Tann-Str. 54, 86159 Augsburg, Germany) to analyze usage data. The use is based on Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR, as we require reliable and efficient tools for collecting app usage data in order to fulfill the contract with you, our customer.
What data is transferred?
The data processed by TelemetryDeck is completely anonymized and does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about personal information. The following data is collected, among other things:
- An anonymized, untraceable user ID (per app installation)
- Actions defined by the app publisher (e.g., "app launched," "settings opened")
- A rounded timestamp (to the nearest hour)
- Device metadata (e.g., system version, app version, device type)
- Additional metadata defined by the app publisher (e.g., "number of items in the database")
What is not stored?
- No IP addresses (not in logs, not in the database)
- No cookies or tracking technologies
- No persistent identifiers that could be traced back to individuals
The source code of the TelemetryDeck SDK is completely open source and available on GitHub: https://github.com/TelemetryDeck
Further information on the exact data processing by TelemetryDeck can be found at telemetrydeck.com/privacy and telemetrydeck.com/docs/guides/privacy-faq/.
Advertising
The free tier of Lift Heavy displays ads served by Google AdMob. Pro subscribers do not see ads. AdMob is the only ad network we use.
When AdMob serves an ad on your device, it may collect a limited set of data that is not linked to your identity — we do not pass your name, email, or any account information to AdMob:
- Device identifiers — a device identifier used by AdMob to frequency-cap ads and prevent fraud. Lift Heavy does not request Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA) — we do not show the App Tracking Transparency prompt.
- Coarse location — approximate region (typically city- or country-level) inferred from your IP. Lift Heavy never requests precise GPS location for advertising.
- Product interaction — which ad you saw, whether you tapped it, and which screen it appeared on.
- Advertising data — campaign and creative identifiers used by AdMob for measurement.
Apple's App Store privacy labels classify all four data types as Data Not Linked to You.
Attribution
Lift Heavy uses Apple's privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork framework to measure ad campaign performance without exposing your identity to advertisers.
Your choices
- Subscribe to Pro — removes all ads.
- iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising — turn off "Personalized Ads" to disable Apple's own ad personalization.
- EU / UK / EEA / Switzerland — on first launch, AdMob's Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) presents a GDPR consent dialog where you can grant or refuse advertising consent.
- California residents — you have the right under the CCPA to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Although Lift Heavy does not send any personally identifying data to AdMob, you may exercise this right by emailing support@lfthvy.app.
